European Film Prize (EFA) 2022: “Without Filter” by Swedish Ruben Östlund wins the day

The best of European cinema gathered in Reykjavik, Iceland, this Saturday evening, for the 35th edition of the European Film Awards (EFA).

“Triangle of Sadness” or “Without filter” in French version, won four prizes: best film, best screenplay, best director and best actor.

Palme d’or at the last Cannes Film Festival, the film by Swedish director Ruben Östlund features ultra-rich people whose stay on a luxury cruise turns into a nightmare. A trashy satirical comedy that leaves no one indifferent.

“I remember a sentence from one of my professors who was also my mentor when I was in university, Ruben Östlund told Euronews. Someone asked him: “Can cinema change the world?” He replied “Yes, but all films change the world”. So this is a competition for attention, and this prize is of course a way to attract attention and increase the number of spectators in cinemas, to ensure that more people watch the movie. If you have a message, and you think it’s important, it’s a good thing to fight for it.”

“Triangle of Sadness” is a fine example of European co-production which brought together Sweden, Germany, France, Greece, Turkey, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
