The competition among single skaters at the European Figure Skating Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania has ended. Luna Hendricks of Belgium took first place with a combined score of 213.25 for her short and free programs. Second place with a score of 206.52 was taken by former Russian figure skater originally from Tolyatti Anastasia Gubanova, who has been competing since 2021 under the flag of Georgia.

“I am incredibly pleased and incredibly happy. I didn’t expect it, honestly. I didn’t immediately go to this competition for a medal; I understood that gold was an almost impossible task. I just wanted to do everything to the maximum, so that I wouldn’t have anything to reproach myself with later. And it seems that it worked. And then there’s the medal as a bonus,” Sports.ru quotes Gubanova.

Another Belgian figure skater Nina Pinzarron took bronze with 202.29 points.

Note that after the short program, all three skaters also took the first three places: Hendricks was in first place, Pinzarron was in second, and Gubanova was in third. Let us remind you that in 2023 Gubanova became the European champion, ahead of Hendrix. Nina Pinzarron did not make it into the top 3 at the previous European Championships, finishing only in fifth place.

Earlier, another former Russian, competing under the Georgian flag, Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulav, became silver medalists at the European Championships in pairs skating. Let us remind you that a total of 24 skaters are participating in the tournament, who in the past competed for Russia.
