Eighty one days for the European polls and in the Maximos Palace and Piraeus the whole o party machinery for drawing up the ballot which voters on June 9 will be asked to choose.
The first names have already been recorded and are expected to be announced by the party even though the entire ballot has not been drawn up. The prime minister’s associates are still processing the biographical and political characteristics of a number of candidates for a position on the ND Eurolist, with the ultimate goal that following the first announcement, which is expected for some of the candidates, the final ballot will be announced the week following the ND congress on April 5-7.
In Piraeus, it is a given that they compose a multi-collegiate ballot, which, however, following the Asimakopoulou case, in addition to the centrist audience, it should also “speak” to the traditional voters of the faction, and perhaps the weight of the choice should weigh perhaps a little more towards the right “pushing” the audience in question.
In this direction, but also under the pressure it receives – at least in terms of opinion polls – from more “right-wing” parties, Megaros Maximos is studying candidates that have a greater impact on the conservative audience like this one of the former Head of GEETHA Konstantinos Florosas well as the former Head of GES and Deputy Minister Alcibiades Stefaniswithout having locked any so far.
Just as the possibility of being a candidate for MEP does not seem to qualify either, the imprisoned Mayor of Chimara Freddy Beleris. A possibility raised by a certain Minister of the government considering that it would help rally the right-wing audience, without receiving the required support so far, as reservations are expressed that a bilateral issue may take on partisan characteristics.
Among the current ND MEPs who will re-claim a place on the ballot, according to information, it is expected to be Vangelis Meimarakis, Eliza Vosenberg, Manolis Kefalogiannis, Stelios Kymbouropoulos and Maria Spyrakis.
Of the MEPs elected in 2019, three have been excluded from the ballot, each for different reasons and most recently in the case of Annas Michel Asimakopoulou, due to the leakage of e-mail addresses of emigrants that I found at her disposal. Not on the ballot is also Thodoris Zagorakiswho is already looking for a new ballot to be a candidate, but also George Kyrtsos who has taken a definitive “political divorce” with the blue faction.
Meanwhile, candidates who, either through official announcements or through leaks, have received the blue anointing have already started their pre-election campaign, such as the former minister Vassilis Kontozamanis, the deputy regional governor of Macedonia Voula Patoulidou, the professor of International Politics Sotiris Serbos, the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association Thanasis Exadaktylos, the former mayor of Samos Michalis Angelopoulos and the former deputy minister of PASOK Evi Christofilopoulos, which recently joined the ND.
Among the nominations, which are considered to be “closed” is that of the journalist Giorgos Autias, of the Olympian Pyrros Dimasof the director of the press office of the prime minister Dimitris Tsiodra, of former PASOK executive Spyros Karanikolas and university student Dimitris Maraveyas, who have already started their pre-election activities. Former Deputy Minister Giorgos Amyras and journalist Vicky Flessa, who was first runner-up, are also expected to have a second chance on the European ballot, while it is possible that former Deputy Minister and ND Member of Parliament Kostas Koukodimos will join the candidates for the European Parliament. Also, the names of the presenter and former ND MP Nonis Dounias and police unionist Giorgos Kalliakmanis.
The Prime Minister’s clear intention is that the candidates on the European ballot should represent all the geographical regions of the country, away from sensationalism and “appearance”, in terms of recognition and celebrity.
