European Cup Final, Can England Win Their First Trophy? – 2024-07-14 22:59:45

Spain vs England European Cup Final (Antara)

THE FINAL of the 2024 European Cup brings together the Spanish and English national teams. This match has equal meaning for both teams. The match will take place at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on Monday morning at 02.00 WIB.

The England national team led by Captain Harry Kane is certainly ambitious to win the first European Cup trophy. So is the Spanish national team. Victory in the final match will make Spain the first team to win the European Cup 4 times.

Prior to this, La Roja had experienced the Euro final four times, namely the 1964, 1984, 2008, and 2012 editions. They only failed to win the 1984 Euro final.

In contrast, this is England’s second European Championship final following Euro 2020. No England manager has matched Gareth Southgate’s record of leading the Three Lions to two major tournament finals.

Southgate is only the second manager following Sir Alf Ramsey to take England to a major final. Southgate failed at Euro 2020, while Ramsey won the 1966 World Cup.

If Southgate can lead England to victory over Spain, he will equal Ramsey as the coach who led England to lift football’s top trophy.

He might end a 58-year drought without winning either the World Cup or the European Championship, which might see him awarded the title of “Sir” as given to Alf Ramsey.

It might also be the first trophy for Harry Kane, who has been prolific in the Premier League and Bundesliga but has never lifted a trophy.

In contrast, for Luis de la Fuente, completing Spain’s European Cup safari by winning all six previous matches, making him the first coach to win the European Cup with a perfect winning record.

He will also join an elite group of Spanish coaches who have won major tournaments, alongside Jose Villalonga, Vicente del Bosque and Luis Aragones.

He will be noted as the coach who brought a squad that was mostly non-stars, but ended up champions. De la Fuente’s Spain was not even favored to win Euro 2024. (Z-8)
