The European Commission has proposed the visa waiver for nationals of Qatar and Kuwait, stressing that these countries have already met the necessary criteria. The proposal follows a detailed assessment of irregular migration, public politics and security, economic benefits and the EU’s relations with Qatar and Kuwait.

Once the EU Council approves the proposal, nationals of Qatar and Kuwait will be able to travel to all EU member states for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days for business, tourism and family purposes, exempt from visa application requirements, reports Schengen Visa Info.

Qatar’s Ambassador to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Abdulaziz bin Ahmed, received the legal document of the European Commission’s proposal on the exemption of citizens from the State of Qatar of the Schengen visa. This happened during the meeting between the Ambassador and the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Promotion of the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas.
