Crowned European champions in Bled at the end of May, Raphaël Ahumada and Jan Schäuble confirmed the excellence of their form. The Vaudois and the Nidwalden won the Varese World Cup round in lightweight double sculls.

Already victorious in Zagreb at the opening of the World Cup, Ahumada/Schäuble were only in 4th place following 500 meters of racing in the final. But they finished very strong to beat the French duo Ferdinand Ludwig/Hugo Beurey by 1”32.

A 2nd place for Röösli and Gulich

Roman Röösli and Andrin Gulich, who also won gold in the recent European double sculls, were beaten in Italy. The Lucerne and the Zurich man took 2nd place behind the British boat, which set the best time ever recorded in this category in the World Cup.

Bronze medalist in Bled in the lightweight single scull, Andri Struzina achieved the best Swiss performance on Saturday in Varese. The Zugois took 2nd place, still 5”64 behind the Italian winner Niels Torre.
