Every month, Europe 1 in partnership with Circana looks back on food inflation, through its control basket, which brings together 12 everyday products from major brands or distributor brands such as rice, eggs and laundry detergent. Two reductions should be noted: on coffee pods and pasta.

For ten of our twelve products, prices remained stable or even fell. Two declines are particularly notable in the month of October. 21 cents less for ten pods of national brand coffee. A notable drop over a month high at 7%. But there’s even better: less 49 cents per kilo of spaghetti from national brands too. Pasta is the only product in the Europe 1 basket whose price has also fallen over one year.

A drop of 57 cents in the basket between September and October

“The bulk of the increase in pasta dates from 2021/2022. So it’s true that when we compare it over the last year, we have a real lull in the price of pasta. Now, when we look compared to two years backwards, there is still an increase in the price of this product. But it is certain that it is going in the right direction for French consumers”, explains the research director of our partner Circana, Émilie Mayer.

And in the same way, our Europe 1 basket drops by 57 cents between September and October. But over one year, it remains a clear increase of 4.14 euros.
