Euro 2024: The coaches rub hands 2024-04-25 15:47:34

UEFA had said it was considering the proposal during the international “window” in March, when some federation selectors expressed a desire to see the “size” of representative groups increased.

Earlier this month the proposal was discussed at a meeting held by the national teams’ technicians in Dusseldorf, Germany. The decision has yet to be confirmed by UEFA, but this is expected to happen following the Executive Committee meeting later this week.

The deadline for the teams to submit the final list of players that will represent them is June 7, i.e. one week before the opening match of the tournament.

Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which resulted in – among other things – the suspension of football activity for several months adding a heavy burden to the calendar for the following year, UEFA allowed teams to field 26-man squads instead of the traditional selections of 23, in the EURO held in the summer of 2021.

For its part, FIFA also retained the selection of footballers for the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar.
