England’s national football team face Spain in the Euro 2024 final, a game expected to see massive beer consumption, with pubs on the island rubbing their hands together as turnover is expected to top £48m.
Lions fans are known for their weakness for alcohol, which has resulted in the industry’s professionals stocking up on an extra ten million pints, starting before half-time of the big game, but also following the final whistle as reported by ” British Beer and Pub Association’.
“Thousands of these beers, including gallons of non-alcoholic beer, will flow freely,” the BBPA added in a press release, clarifying that pubs were authorized to stay open until 1am (03:00 Greek time) “so that fans to be able to celebrate a victory – or “drown” their sorrow”.
UKHospitality, another trade body representing the hotel and catering sector, even puts the impact of the final at £120m (€143m) for the country’s pubs and bars.
Overall, the entire UK hospitality industry expects an impact of £800m (€952m) in total during the football tournament, according to UKHospitality.
