Eunice is officially recognized as a “strong storm” in Belgium

The storm Eunicewhich hit our country on Friday, has been officially recognized as a storm in Belgium since the beginning of the followingnoon, David Dehenauw, of the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM), announced on Twitter.

Shortly following 2:00 p.m., however, David Dehenauw reported that the winds had reached 10 Beaufort at this same station, meaning that Eunice is now classified as a “strong storm“.

Characteristics of a storm

According to the IRM criteria, a storm is officially recognized as such in Belgium if the wind reaches a force of 9 on the Beaufort scale. This means that it blows on average at a speed of at least 75 km/h for 10 minutes and at a height of 10 meters above a measuring station located on Belgian territory.

If the winds exceed 90 km/h, then it is called a severe storm.
