[Brussels, 21st Archyde.com]-The European Union (EU) will consider whether to impose an oil embargo on Russia, which has invaded Ukraine this week.

The EU, along with its Western allies, has already imposed a series of sanctions, including a freeze on the assets of the Russian central bank, to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the invasion.

“We are considering a fifth sanction, and many new names have been given,” said a senior EU diplomat on condition of anonymity.

EU countries will discuss this matter at the Council of Foreign Ministers on the 21st. US President Joe Biden will enter Brussels on the 24th to attend the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the EU and the seven major countries (G7).

Diplomatic sources said Russia might trigger an energy embargo if it used chemical weapons in Ukraine or bombarded Kyiv.
