BRUSSELS, May 10 (Archyde.com) – The European Commission is set to clear Microsoft’s acquisition of video game maker Activision Blizzard next week, likely on May 15, sources close to the media say. case.
The decision of the European executive would come almost three weeks following the refusal opposed by the British competition authority to this operation of an amount of 69 billion dollars (62.51 billion euros), which represents the most major acquisition in the video game sector.
The UK regulator said Microsoft failed to address all of its concerns by committing to ensuring access to Activision’s “Call of Duty” game on major cloud gaming platforms.
The approval from European authorities would come following Microsoft agreed to grant licenses to owners of platforms such as Nvidia, Ubitus and Boosteroid, other sources familiar with the matter told Archyde.com in March.
The American giant has also reached agreements with Nintendo and the American group Valve Corp, owner of the Steam video game distribution platform, to integrate “Call of Duty” into their platforms if the acquisition goes through.
The European Commission, which is due to make its decision by May 22, declined to comment.
Japanese authorities approved the acquisition in March. For their part, the American authorities are seeking to block the transaction. (Reporting by Foo Yun Chee; French version Zhifan Liu, editing by Blandine Hénault)
