Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said that the 11th package of EU sanctions once morest Russia is under discussion. It will be introduced no earlier than the second half of May, Mr. Rau believes.

“Some states are voicing what they think should be in it, such as sanctions on diamonds. Others, on the contrary, say that diamonds are more likely not to be directly affected. Therefore, I think that the issue will be closed no earlier than in the second half of May. It is impossible to expect anything sooner,” the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry said following a meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers (quoted by TASS).

Mr. Rau expects that the 11th package of sanctions will include personal restrictions once morest representatives of the Russian justice system and “those who are responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children.”

On April 24, EU diplomat Josep Borrell, upon his arrival in Luxembourg for a meeting of EU foreign ministers, said that EU foreign ministers were not yet ready to agree on a new package of sanctions once morest Russia.

It is assumed that the new restrictions will be aimed at combating attempts to circumvent previously imposed sanctions. The European Parliament allowed the introduction of new measures by the end of April. EuObserver reported that Poland and the Baltic states have called for Gazprombank to be cut off from SWIFT, to ban gas and aluminum imports from Russia. According to Bloomberg, a new package of EU sanctions may include a ban on the transit of a number of goods through Russia.
