Tension in the EU Parliament: Ilaria Salis in the crosshairs of controversy. Last Tuesday, the new MEP had dinner with her parents, north of Strasbourg, in the municipality of Schiltigheim. The following morning, at 9 am, she reached the capital of Alsace to attend the plenary session of the European Parliament. After entering through a secondary entrance, she hurried into the chamber and sat down next to her classmate Mimmo Lucano. The dramatic turn of events occurred late in the morning when, during the plenary session, Austrian MEP Georg Mayer, who is part of the right-wing Patriots group founded by Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, took the floor.
