The foreign ministers of the 27 EU states will discuss the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine in Brussels on Monday. With regard to the Gaza war, one of the questions is how the EU can help improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. When it comes to Ukraine, further discussions will be held about what long-term security commitments could look like for the country attacked by Russia.
It recently became apparent that a plan by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell for longer-term financing commitments for military aid is unlikely to receive the necessary support from all 27 EU states. This envisaged mobilizing five billion euros annually from 2024-2027. It is now being discussed whether less extensive obligations could be an alternative.
