EU extends sanctions against Belarus

The European Union is expanding sanctions against Russia’s ally Belarus over the war of aggression in Ukraine. The measures were published in the EU Official Journal on Thursday and thus came into force. Accordingly, the EU countries imposed an export ban on technologies that can be used in the aerospace industry, such as drones. In addition, the sale, supply or export of firearms and ammunition will be prohibited in the future. The export ban on goods and technologies that can be used for both civilian and military purposes has also been extended.

In addition, 38 people and three organizations from Belarus were sanctioned. They are said to be contributing to the repression of Belarusian civil society and responsible for human rights violations in the country. Last year, the EU imposed sanctions on Belarus in response to its support for the Russian war. These include trade restrictions and a ban on transactions with the Belarusian central bank.
