EU Commission approves Austrian aid for agriculture

The aid is granted in the form of direct grants in connection with the Russian war of aggression once morest Ukraine. The measure is open to primary agricultural producers who have run into financial difficulties due to the effects of the war.

The approval was given on the basis of the EU Commission’s temporary crisis and transitional framework for state aid. The EU Commission concluded that the Austrian scheme meets the specified conditions. In particular, the aid will not exceed EUR 280,000 per beneficiary and will be granted no later than December 31, 2024, the Brussels authority said in a press release. The scheme is “necessary, appropriate and proportionate to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a Member State”.

On March 23, 2022, the EU Commission adopted a temporary crisis framework to enable member states to support the economy following Russia’s attack in Ukraine. The temporary crisis framework supplements the existing state aid regime with further options. The framework has since been extended and expanded several times.
