Etna’s activity ended on Thursday morning. A cloud of smoke and volcanic ash 9.5 kilometers high rose over Catania. A major cleanup began immediately.

Due to the suspension of Catania-Fontanarossa Vincenzo Bellini Airport, many flights were redirected to Palermo.

On Thursday after 6 pm, air traffic was restored, but is still limited to two arrivals per hour. It will gradually increase to six per hour.

The airport management asks passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline.
