Étienne Makosso was officially installed, Monday July 18, at the head of the Congolese lotteries management (Cogelo) to replace Guy Roger Moigni. The new director general has pledged to relaunch a public company that has been in financial and social difficulty for a decade.

The new general manager of the public lottery company took office following a handover ceremony marked by the habits and customs of the Congolese public administration, supervised by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cogelo, Michel Mongo. The incoming called on his collaborators to make more efforts to straighten out the oldest gambling company in the country. Among the many projects awaiting the new boss of Cogelo are the adoption, in the short term, of a work plan and budget for 2022, the overhaul of the company’s statutes, the updating of the organization chart of the thirty-year-old company, monitoring the adoption of the Gambling Bill in the Republic of Congo. ” Cogelo must operate as a company and not an administration. It must play its role of mobilizing resources for social actions “, challenged Michel Mongo. The new management team will also have to relaunch the dialogue with the social partners, in particular on the subject of the plan to reduce the company’s expenses and personnel expenses, taking into account new salary scales. The social partners should also be involved in drawing up the recovery plan for the public company. It should be noted, however, that the Cogelo unions are currently claiming thirteen months of unpaid wages and more than eight billion FCFA arrears of social security contributions.
