(Ecofin Agency) – Operating until recently mainly with Boeings, Ethiopian Airlines has diversified its fleet with Airbuses, as part of the intensification of its medium and long-haul services. A strategy that would allow it to maximize profits by reducing fuel consumption
Ethiopian Airlines announced on July 28 that it had opted to replace the 4 A350-900s on order from Airbus with A350-1000 models. A request that will make the Ethiopian carrier the first African company to operate with this type of wide-body aircraft dedicated to passenger transport.
Ethiopian had in fact placed an order for 22 A350-900s and had already had 16 delivered. Its order book with the European manufacturer now contains 4 A350-1000s and 2 A350-900s.
According to Airbus, the A350-1000 model equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines is more economical, with a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO emissions2 compared to the twin aisles of the older generation.
« The A350-1000 is the best choice for our dense routes, and we believe the upgrade will be essential to meet growing customer demand across our extensive global network across 5 continents. We will continue to keep abreast of advances in aviation technology to improve our service and meet customer demand. said Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO.
