A 16-year-old at the finish line.
Then a 17-year-old stole the headlines.
Ethan Nwaneri scored his first two first-team goals at Arsenal and was celebrated by the fans.
One name stood out when Arsenal announced their starting XI for Wednesday’s League Cup match against Bolton.
Jack Porter.
The goalkeeper is just 16 years and 72 days old and became the youngest player in Arsenal’s history to start a first-team game.
He took over the record from Cesc Fàbregas, who was 16 years and 177 days old when he made his first start (in October 2003).

Nwaneri hero
But if Jack Porter was the man in the headlines before the game, Ethan Nwaneri definitely was afterwards.
Nwaneri, who is 17 years old, scored two goals in the match and received a standing ovation from the fans.
Arsenal won the match 5–1 and one of the scorers was Raheem Sterling, who thus scored his first goal for the club.
Liverpool crushed West Ham
Liverpool are also easily through to the fourth round of the league cup.
They ran over West Ham 5–1.
Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo scored two goals each and Mohamed Salah scored one.
