Estrie is no longer among the destinations of choice

The new survey released today by CAA Quebec confirms that the Eastern Townships slipped to 6th place among vacation spots considered by Quebecers.

Last year, 15% of Quebecers wanted to come and visit the Eastern Townships. This year, that number has dropped by 2%, slipping from 3rd to 6th place in the ranking.

“It’s not worrying, especially with the positive feedback we currently have from our tourism businesses,” reassured the general manager of Tourisme Cantons-de-l’Est, Anne Langevin.

“Bookings are going well. We have good feedback from our tourism businesses. We wondered regarding the impact of the price at the pump. People may have already booked their vacations in advance, from there to changing plans, I don’t think people would have canceled. On the other hand, in the choice of activities, there may be differences, ”she added.

Quebecers will still continue to enjoy the territory, while 45% of them want to stay in the province. According to the survey, 10% of respondents will choose the United States as a travel destination, where many Estriens are likely to hit the road.

Due to the pandemic, the last two years have been difficult for travellers. As a result, nearly 67% of respondents will take a vacation outside this year.

The price of gasoline does not seem to affect tourist travel, while the most used means of travel is the automobile at 69%. Also, 15% of respondents opted for the plane as a means of transportation, an increase of 10 points compared to last year.

The survey was conducted online between April 29 and May 5, 2022 by the firm Léger on behalf of CAA-Quebec, with 1,000 respondents aged 18 and over.
