“Everyone should have the right to marry the person they love,” Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said following Tuesday’s vote. She was “proud of Estonia”. In the vote, 55 MPs voted in favor of the law, 34 voted once morest. The government of Prime Minister Kallas also survived a vote of no confidence that was linked to the draft law.
Same-sex couples have had the right to enter into a registered partnership in Estonia since 2014. The law that has now been passed abolishes the legal inequalities that previously existed between homosexual and heterosexual couples.
