Walter Luzaretta Saxo
Francisco Fox Guitar
Mauricio Costanzo Battery
Kaos Vonnegut is an organization excommunicated from the canon. Without the double bass, the exchange of saxophone, guitar and drums presents its own journey in jazz
Contemporary.
The trio’s approach to music, composition and performance all share the concept of chaos as an alternative form of order. The idea of ”non-heroes” in which all protagonists are of equal importance is entirely consistent with Chaos Vonnegut. No part is more important than this. Although music is composed, thought out and planned, interactions and improvisations between musicians constantly generate new paths. The trio presents their second album “En el Río”, which was recorded in February 2024.

This quartet stands out for its Patagonian sound, It combines the essence of jazz with the depth of sound we can experience in the Upper Valley. The sounds of ValdeBenito’s works are penetrating and cold; they seek to reflect and evoke the images, moments and landscapes of the land: the climate and life in the plateaus, rivers, valleys. Its members are musicians with extensive experience in jazz, whose favorite music is jazz, although they also work in other genres.

Personal styles and structures like progressive rock and jazz, with rough and visceral sounds and textures without harmonic instruments, using improvisation as a challenging game between saxophone, bass and drum tones.

A concert entirely dedicated to the works of Thelonious Monk. Monk’s music is the most played music in the jazz world after the works of Duke Ellington. Something to note: Although Ellington has more than 1,000 compositions named after him, 70 songs are enough to introduce Monk.
The pantheon of great jazz composers. Ernesto Amstein’s Trio pays homage to Munch with original arrangements and personal voices, seeking tools for interaction and improvisation from his work.

That then is a set of works that navigates different cultures, visiting the folk music of different countries, but always focusing on the harmonic and improvisational resources of jazz. Tomorrow, the album will be officially released on this beautiful festival.

What unique elements does Kaos Vonnegut bring to contemporary jazz with the absence of a double bass in their compositions?
**Interview with Mauricio Costanzo, Drummer of Kaos Vonnegut**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Mauricio. We’re looking forward to your performance this Friday with Kaos Vonnegut. Can you tell us what audiences can expect from your set?
**Mauricio Costanzo:** Absolutely! Our set will be an exploration of chaos as an order in the form of contemporary jazz. We’ve been working on our second album, “En el Río,” and we’ll be performing pieces that embrace improvisation and the concept of “non-heroes” in our music, where every instrument carries equal weight.
**Editor:** That sounds fascinating. How does the absence of a double bass influence your sound and your compositions?
**Mauricio Costanzo:** The lack of a double bass opens up unique opportunities for sonic exploration. It allows the saxophone, guitar, and drums to interact in unprecedented ways, creating a more dynamic dialogue. It’s about pushing boundaries and finding new musical paths together.
**Editor:** You mentioned your new album, “En el Río.” What can you tell us about it?
**Mauricio Costanzo:** This album is a significant step for us. We recorded it in February 2024, and it’s a collection of our thoughts and experiences through music. The pieces reflect our journey, encapsulating both composed and improvised sections. I think listeners will appreciate the fresh sound and the element of unpredictability in our performance.
**Editor:** Following your act, the lineup features Bird Thing and Victor ValdeBenito Quartet. How do you feel about sharing the stage with such diverse artists?
**Mauricio Costanzo:** I’m incredibly excited! Each group brings something unique to the table, and I think the evening will offer an amazing variety of sounds and styles. It’s always inspiring to see how other musicians interpret their art. We are all part of this tapestry in the local music scene.
**Editor:** It sounds like a fantastic evening in Semar! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us, and we wish Kaos Vonnegut the best for your performance.
**Mauricio Costanzo:** Thank you! We can’t wait to share our music with everyone. See you there!
