The Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests has announced the establishment of a unit at the central level and local units to monitor the situation of forest fires that have occurred in the region and assess their impact. “To mitigate the impact of the fire on agricultural activity and come to the aid of the populations concerned, the ministry has set up a cell at the central level and cells at the local level, in coordination with the local, provincial and local authorities. regional authorities, to monitor the situation and assess the impact of this fire”, indicates a press release from the ministry published at the end of a field visit carried out on Monday to the rural communes of Souk L’qolla and Boujediane, by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Waters and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki. The objective is to identify the urgent measures to be taken in favor of the population and to carry out development and rehabilitation projects for the affected ecosystems, within the framework of an overall government program.

These forest fires, declared in the north of the Kingdom since July 13, have destroyed around 9,200 hectares of forest cover in the provinces of Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan and Chefchaouen, including 7,800 ha in the Souk L’qolla commune. . They also hit areas of fruit trees and destroyed many traditional and modern beehives that are in the burned forests. The same source specifies that the tireless efforts deployed by the intervention teams, and the elements of the Waters and Forests, the Civil Protection, the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Auxiliary Forces, supported by volunteers from the population local, made it possible to control all the sources of fire that broke out in these provinces. The response teams, supported by several land and air resources, managed to control the flames fanned by high temperatures and violent gusts of wind.
