Established Security Perimeter: Twelve Barrels Near Montignies Cemetery

A person passing by the Montignies-Neuville cemetery informed the firefighters regarding a discovery. Several 200-litre barrels, around ten in number, were found on Rue du Wé on Saturday morning at around 9 a.m. The drums had a black substance that emitted smoke and turned white on exposure to air. Charleroi firefighters conducted investigations and were later joined by their colleagues from Sambreville. The civil protection team is expected to take control of the situation. To ensure safety, local police and firefighters set up a security perimeter in the area.

It was a passerby passing along the Montignies-Neuville cemetery who alerted the firefighters.

About ten 200-litre barrels were discovered this Saturday morning, around 9 a.m., rue du Wé. According to information gathered on site, a black product giving off smoke and turning white on contact with air escaped from the drums.

Charleroi firefighters carried out analyses, before being joined on site by their colleagues from Sambreville. Civil protection should take over. A security perimeter has been established by the firefighters and the local police.
