The city of Essaouira “broke all the meters” during the summer of 2023, thus achieving a “historic record” and unprecedented in terms of the number of its visitors.
“The summer of 2023 will be a milestone in the history of Essaouira. The Cité des Alizés, which generally sees its population more than double in August, broke all the meters this year by achieving an unprecedented record with a density of visitors which saw the city triple the number of those who visited it. stayed this summer,” reads a press release from the municipality of Essaouira.

Bayt Dakira, inaugurated by HM King Mohammed VI in 2020, and which tells in its own way the story of the Cité des Alizés and the relationship that Jews and Muslims have built there, thus welcomed several hundred visitors daily who sometimes exceeded one thousand, the document says.
On the Place Moulay El Hassan, which welcomed more than 20,000 music lovers per evening, and in Dar Souiri, the Essaouira-Mogador Association and the Commune of Essaouira also and throughout the summer offered the public, several times weekly music concerts from all Souiris repertoires, from Gnaouas to Andalusian music and from the ritual of the brotherhoods to that of all the music that the Cité des Alizés has the talent to welcome and embody, notes the press release.
