A Esri, a global leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software solutions, is hosting a live broadcast on LinkedIn on Thursday, December 14th, highlighting the City of Sydney, Australia. During the live broadcast, leaders from the City of Sydney will discuss their innovative approach to promoting tree equity, regardless of where their citizens live, as well as increasing biodiversity in trees and the wildlife that depend on them.

The rapid growth of metropolitan Sydney has resulted in the loss of biodiversity and green, shady places. Over the past decade, more than half of Greater Sydney’s neighborhoods have lost urban forest cover, and experts warn that suburbs without sufficient tree cover might become uninhabitable. Now, the state government plans to plant millions of trees by 2030.

Brett Dixon, Space Industry Specialist and Director of Esri’s Asia Pacific Business, will host the live LinkedIn session with Matt Sund, Manager of Spatial Information Services at the City of Sydney, and Karen Sweeney, Manager of Urban Trees, which will highlight their work to make communities across the city cooler by using Esri Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to identify urban heat hotspots and map the suburban tree canopy in every neighborhood across the city .
