Caitlin Clark is officially women’s basketball’s all-time scoring leader, establishing herself as one of the best players in the history of the sport. However, one ESPN analyst doesn’t think the Iowa star should be considered “great” just yet.
On College GamedayJay Williams explained that he believes Clark needs to win a title to become one of the greats.
“She has changed the dynamics of the way the game is played, she’s probably the most prolific scorer the game of basketball has ever seen,” Williams said. “I hold ‘great,’ or levels of immortality or the pantheon, to when you win championships.”

Williams then named UConn legends Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart as players who won multiple championships in women’s college basketball, while Clark has yet to win one. Taurasi won three straight titles between 2002 and ’04, while Stewart won four straight from 2013 to ’16.
Clark did make the finals last season, helping Iowa knock off undefeated South Carolina in the Final Four. However, the Hawkeyes lost to LSU in the championship game despite Clark scoring a game-high 30 points.
Iowa is currently ranked No. 4 in the country, and the Hawkeyes have a tremendous opportunity to win their first basketball title. Clark winning it all would only add to her legendary college career.
