Apparently Carlos Alcaraz’s father filmed the Serbs training.
The Spanish world number one remains calm.
There will be a duel on the tennis court between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz at the earliest in the Wimbledon final on Sunday. But even before their respective semi-finals, the two currently best tennis players in the world exchange blows in the media.
“I’m not really relaxed in training. I know my opponents are looking over my shoulder,” said Djokovic following his quarter-final win over Andrei Rublev. “Sometimes I would like more privacy,” said the 23-time Grand Slam winner to the Serbian portal “b92”. With his criticism, the Serb is likely to refer to an incident with Carlos Alcaraz senior, the father of the Spanish world number one.
The 52-year-old has apparently been spotted filming a Djokovic practice session at the Wimbledon training facility. It’s not forbidden, the training ground in Wimbledon is freely accessible to players and their staff.
Djokovic unbeaten since 2018
When asked regarding his father’s cell phone videos, Alcaraz junior remains cool. It is quite possible that his father filmed Djokovic’s training. “My father is a big tennis fan. He doesn’t just watch my games,” said the 20-year-old. His father is at the facility all day and watches the training sessions of many players.
Alcaraz does not see this as an advantage for a possible final. “I have a lot of Djokovic videos on every platform,” said the US Open winner. Nevertheless, the possible meeting of the two is under special circumstances. With his eighth Wimbledon triumph, Djokovic might replace Alcaraz as world number one once more. The Serb has been unbeaten in London since 2018.
