The promoters of the Espace Hubert-Reeves believe they are more ready than ever for its completion. $7.5 million of the $20 million needed to build this “non-standard” project was collected.
Quebec and Ottawa were solicited for a total of $16 million. The president of the board of directors of the Observatory of the geosphere specifies that 60% of the 4 M$ which constitute the part of the private sector were found. “I would like to make announcements, but you will understand that governments and partners will make them. Some might be done in the fall. The Quebec government might then confirm 60% of its funding,” says François Tremblay.
If things go well with the Quebec government for funding, with the federal government the process begins. This is what the plan of the organization provided for elsewhere.

The efforts to find funds have been colossal. Last year, no financial commitment was signed. “We are at a critical stage. We remain enthusiastic. We think we will be able to complete the financial package with the Government of Canada in six months, ”also indicates the president of the organization.
“The reception is impressive among the partners who are solicited. They are even the ones who described the project as “non-standard”. It is a project that will have international influence because of its design. A building that will have high environmental standards and whose operation will be carbon neutral,” adds François Tremblay.
The Espace Hubert-Reeves will of course have a scientific scope, but in reality it might reach a very large clientele. Tourism and educational establishments would benefit from it, to name only these sectors.
The establishment will be interactive on environmental sciences, astronomy and geology. It will be equipped with multimedia equipment. “The storyline is exactly the same as what was presented publicly. However, technologies evolve and it is in the design that changes might occur. Augmented reality was little talked regarding when the project was unveiled,” concludes François Tremblay.
If everything goes according to the given schedule, L’Espace Hubert-Reeves would be erected next to the Parc du Havre in La Malbaie in 2025.
