ESO: about 500 residents requested compensation for storm damage, there could be more | Business

“During this past time, we have received more than half a thousand requests from residents for compensation of direct losses,” Justinas Petkus, ESO’s public relations project manager, told LRT radio on Friday.

“According to our calculations, more residents did not have electricity for more than 72 hours. More residents can submit applications,” he said.

According to J. Petkaus, approximately half of the residents who requested compensation applied for spoiled food, a third – to receive compensation for the costs of purchasing or renting a generator, and the smallest part – for accommodation.

According to the ESO representative, half of the residents who applied for spoiled food did not submit all the necessary documents, such as photos of the spoiled food.

“But we contact such residents and ask them to clarify their requests. Most of them submit those documents”, said J. Petkus.

According to him, if residents cannot provide photos of spoiled food because, for example, they threw it away without taking a photo, they can provide food purchase receipts and bank statements.

ESO compensates the direct losses of the country’s residents who were without electricity for more than 72 hours due to the storm that raged on July 28 and 29.

The head of ESO, R. Radvila, has said that the compensation will be paid from the company’s profit.

According to the head of ESO, efforts will be made to pay compensations as soon as possible, and ESO has no intention of suing consumers.

ESO asks residents, if possible, to document the losses incurred due to the power failure, but assures that it will compensate those who do not have all the necessary documents or photos.

In addition, residents, longer than 72 hours without electricity, can expect compensations calculated by VERT.

ESO calculates that if the average consumer in Lithuania, whose consumption is about 150 kilowatt hours per month, the electricity supply was not renewed within 72 hours, he is entitled to a fixed compensation of almost 35 euros and 0.82 euros for each hour of delay due to the amount of electricity not supplied.

Residents can apply for compensation until September 30.
