Salin, 25, a resident of Visé, was sentenced to 20 months in prison with probation for three quarters of the sentence before the criminal court of Liège for having possessed kilos of marijuana and having provoked a chase. He was also given a three-month driving license disqualification. On April 30, 2023, a crew from the Basse Meuse police zone traveling in Visé spotted a Mini Cooper vehicle with Polish registration whose driver was driving aggressively.
The police wanted to check the vehicle, but the driver fled. The police use blue lights and the horn but the vehicle has entered the E25 motorway. The driver slowed down, pulled over to the right and came to a stop.
Blocked by a cordon of cars
The police vehicle stopped and just then Salin drove off at full speed onto the freeway. An impressive chase then started. The driver drove at high speed and overtook on the right several times, cut a vehicle on the lane on the right forcing the latter to brake urgently. He zigzagged between the vehicles and overtook once more through the hard shoulder. Another team spotted the suspect vehicle in Ans and chased it. The police who conducted the chase joined them. They saw the driver throw three bags before getting back on the highway. He ended up being chased by nine crews from different areas. The police set up a cordon to block the vehicle on the hard shoulder. At the rear, two police vehicles carried out a sweep to slow down traffic in order to proceed with the interception of the vehicle without impacting other users. After the Hermée exit, all the crews surrounded the vehicle at the emergency lane.
The vehicle is finally stopped a little further. Salin had taken narcotics and threw nearly 3 kg 400 grams of marijuana. He explained that he owed between 15,000 to 16,000 euros to people in connection with the narcotics case for which he was sentenced in 2021. At the time, he was arrested with 14,000 euros on him , money he had to hand over to drug traffickers following the delivery of narcotics. This money was seized. He left for France to escape them but they showed up at his home in Visé and contacted him once more via social media. He was afraid for his family and returned to Belgium.
After two months, they contacted him once more. They made him understand that he had to work for them once more to be able to repay his debt. The day before he had been given the keys to the Mini and three bags which he was to deliver to Louvain. Since he returned to Belgium, he has already carried out between 15 and 20 transports and each time, his debt is reduced by 300 euros. He refused to give the identity of the sponsors because they are people of Albanian origin who are not afraid of anything and will not hesitate to take revenge on him or his family according to him. He admitted to having committed the chase because he was driving without a license.
