Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian Minister of Sports and Youth, Ashraf Sobhi, announced that the wrestling federation in the country had been referred to the Public Prosecution office following the escape of the wrestler, Ahmed Bagdouda, from his country’s camp during his participation in a championship in Tunisia.

This came in a statement published by the Egyptian Ministry of Sports on its Facebook page, in which it stated: “Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, confirmed that a ministerial committee had been formed to discuss the crisis of the player Ahmed Bagdouda’s escape from the camp of the wrestling team’s mission in Tunisia, during his participation in the activities of the African Championship.” And the minister revealed that the wrestling federation had been referred to the Public Prosecution regarding the federation’s responsibility and the circumstances that led to the player’s escape in this way, explaining that this phenomenon was present in greater proportions previously, but it decreased a lot, according to a studied approach and full awareness of the players with the provision of sponsorship contracts for the champions.

The statement added: “The Minister of Sports thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his support and support for all Egyptian athletes, and his constant support for Egyptian sports and motivating permanent champions, which does not happen in other countries very often, indicating that the president’s support contributed to increasing the number of champions and the occurrence of a large boom in achievements on the continent and globally.” Addressing the athletes, he said: “You are appreciated, and your sponsorship programs are proceeding in a professional, scientific and sustainable manner. My message to all our champion players at the African, international and Olympic levels is that we are with you all.”

The minister revealed, according to the statement, that “measures have already been taken through the ministry’s coordination with the sports federations,” stressing: “We have institutions that have contributed to the champions sponsorship programs, as well as companies that we have established through the private sector to manage the champion players professionally. We have the national project for youth, talent, and the champion.” The Olympic Games is a sustainable and future project that we developed in coordination with the administrative oversight, education and sports federations.
