Music director for the album Badai Pasti Berlalu, Eros Djarot, revealed how he got inspiration during the creative process of creating the songs on the album, which was released in 1977.
Eros said that to write the theme song for the film of the same title, it was not merely a matter of watching the finished film. He was even involved during the filming process to better understand the outpouring of emotions and feelings displayed in the film.
“When we make music, we usually have to watch the film first, I was actually involved when they were filming, I wanted to know more so that I could…
close. Because I have lived in Europe since I was 19 so the individuals are different,” said Eros, quoted Tuesday (27/8).
For Eros, experiencing firsthand the feelings and interactions of romance as interpreted by the film Badai Pasti Berlalu made it easier for him to get the imagination to create songs that support the emotional delivery of a scene.
“When I created it, I played with my imagination, with the benchmark of not exceeding the existing emotions but rather I…
transforming what I feel. Of course I attach it to the film with the hope that the music should actually thicken and strengthen the drama or reduce it,” he said.
According to him, a creative process that is only focused on film visuals will not develop the imagination to create songs.

“The image is what binds, I am disciplined not to spread it too much. But to get the spirit, I only depend on the scene I see, maybe I get trapped. I don’t want to get trapped by that,” he said.
The album Badai Pasti Berlalu was released in 1977, containing the theme song for the film of the same title directed by Teguh Karya and starring Christine Hakim, Roy Marten, and Slamet Rahardjo.
Eros Djarot as the music director, invited several singers and musicians in the production process of this album, including Chrisye, Berlian Hutauruk, Yockie Suryo Prayogo, Keenan Nasution, Debby Nasution, and Fariz RM.
In 2007, Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine named Badai Pasti Berlalu as the best Indonesian album of all time. (Ant/Z-1)
