Greens: Condemnation of the Hamas terrorist attacks and compliance with international law as irrefutable cornerstones
Vienna (OTS) – “We fully stand with Israel and once once more condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas. I am very pleased that the motion we initiated has now been unanimously approved by the National Council following the debate in the Foreign Policy Committee. It is a strong signal that all parties represented in parliament were able to agree on a common and clear position. “In times when we are at a loss for words in the face of barbarism, politics must have a clear compass,” says Ewa Ernst-Dziedzic, foreign policy spokeswoman for the Greens.
During the debate in the National Council, all parties referred to the numerous innocent civilians who were kidnapped by Hamas into the Gaza Strip and have been held hostage ever since. “Even with the prospect that 10 to 13 children and women will be released today, it is of the highest priority for us to work with all vehemence and with all means for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” explains Ernst-Dziedzic.
The motion adopted today calls on the Federal Government, among other things, to continue to support all political and diplomatic efforts to stop the spread of war and to use all levers to support the unconditional release of all abducted Israeli hostages. “The Austrian National Council expresses its deepest condolences to the Israeli population. Israel has the guaranteed right to defend itself and to take action once morest terrorism that targets the right to exist. Likewise, every civilian population must be protected, access to humanitarian aid must always be guaranteed and the current ceasefire must be used to provide urgently needed supplies in the Gaza Strip. The fact is that more than half of the population in Gaza is under 12 years old,” says Ernst-Dziedzic and concludes: “It is unacceptable when slogans deny Israel’s right to exist and it is frightening that as a result of October 7th There has been an enormous increase in anti-Semitic attacks and acts of violence. At the same time, we must do everything we can to ensure that we do not fuel further terrorism in the region or anti-Muslim racism on Europe’s streets. “That’s why I consider it particularly important that this motion also clearly advocates intensively continuing and expanding efforts once morest anti-Semitism and all forms of racism and extremism, incitement and hate propaganda,” says Ernst-Dziedzic.
