The Chinese internet giant Baidu, which specializes in artificial intelligence, has released a chatbot, Ernie, a competitor to ChatGPT, into the public domain.
Here’s what we know
Ernie Bot is able to generate text and images in response to user questions and requests in natural language. The chatbot is available on an official website and an app available only in Chinese stores.
Robin Li, CEO of Baidu, said releasing the model publicly will allow developers to gather feedback from real people, which will help improve Ernie and the company’s underlying models.
A few hours after its launch, Ernie Bot topped the ranking of free apps on the Chinese App Store.
