Ernesto Pugni turns his music machine back on

2023-09-07 08:23:00

Ernesto Pugni vuelve unique (un)repeatable. One year after his last presentation, the drummer and percussionist turns on again that music machine into which “Unique” became, that project that created in 2017 to revisit his music and let go of it for the first time after so many years of playing and recording with and for others.

Of that original trio that completed Andres Fuhr and Jesus Fernandez, the only one that remains is precisely, and not by chance, Ernesto Pugni. Since its first (re)appearance in 2019, Único has been completed by Pablo Joubert (electric bass and vocals), Gonzalo Guida (guitar), Pablo Gutiérrez Chau (vibraphone) and Camila Pugni Reta (Afro-Latin percussions).

Became a quintet and renowned Unique Circular, the project returned in 2022 and this year, with the incorporation of the “unique sixth”, Santiago Melendo, in poetry and song from Brazil, returns to the scene, this Thursday, at 9:00 p.m., in in Hall II of the House of Culture (see below), the space where he was born when they were three. Why does he come back? For the desire to touch, says Ernesto Pugni, as if any other reason was necessary to do so. there is something true in Single Circular: it’s not a band. It is something superior: a project that accompanies the figure of Pugni and the musical interests that cross him at the moment.

And right now, the project is traversed by a very personal combination of jazz, pop and Brazilian music. Standards intervened with delicate percussion arrangements that invite sound journeys that go from Latin America to the Middle East and beyond. Because, as Ernesto Pugni says, this trip is about “unclassify myself from jazz”.
