The militants of the Democratic Center recognize that the party is going through a crisis. After being the largest bench in the Congress of the Republic following the 2018 elections, the party is overtaken by its antithesis: the progressivism led by Gustavo Petro.
The party is reinventing itself and seeks to be the face of the opposition, headed by María Fernanda Cabal. However, they ask that Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the natural boss, and former president Iván Duque lead the reengineering of the community.
Former senator Ernesto Macías, from the wing that sympathizes with Duque’s ideas, sent a letter to the former presidents asking them to get the party out of the crisis.
In a letter to former presidents @AlvaroUribeVel (Founding President) and @IvanDuque (statutory head), I tell them that only they can get the @CeDemocratico.
In the face of uncertainty, the country needs a vigorous and united Party; and a real opposition.

“In a letter to former presidents Álvaro Uribe Vélez (founding president) and Iván Duque (statutory head), I tell them that only they can get the Democratic Center out of the crisis. In the face of uncertainty, the country needs a vigorous and united party, and a true opposition.” express.
The truth is that, despite always being governed by the leadership of former President Uribe, the legacy of Iván Duque is not entirely welcome among the heavyweights of Uribe. For example, María Fernanda Cabal and Paloma Valencia, who position themselves as the face of the opposition, do not believe that this should be the course of the community.
Time will determine who will be the leaders of the Democratic Center in the years and elections to come. On the other hand, it should be noted that María Fernanda Cabal was clear in saying that she wants to be president in four years.
