Ernest Nuamah: Rising Ghanaian Star Joins Olympique Lyonnais Despite Financial Challenges

2023-08-30 20:25:10

The young Ghanaian Ernest Nuamah19, will play for Olympique Lyonnais this season, the French club announced following the player was bought… by RWDM.

Both clubs belong to the American businessman John Textor with his company Eagle Football, but the Lyon club is currently constrained in its transfer window by measures to control its payroll and transfer allowances decided by the DNCG, which rejected OL’s appeal in early July. Lyon must go back to the DNCG in October or November to reassess their situation. “Eagle Football and Olympique Lyonnais are very pleased to announce the arrival of Ghanaian international striker, Ernest Nuamah, from RWDM, on loan until June 30, 2024“, communicated OL on Wednesday.

Arrived at Danish first division club Nordsjaelland in January 2022, Nuamah made his professional debut a few weeks later by scoring his first goal in his first official appearance. Last season saw the Ghanaian win two individual distinctions: that of best player of the season and that of top scorer in the Danish championship with 12 goals scored in 30 matches (4 assists).

The amount mentioned for the transfer to the Belgian capital is close to 25 million euros. The operation is therefore surprising because the total budget of the Molenbeek club is only around half of the sum of the transfer. Will this financial package intended to send Nuamah to OL cause problems for RWDM? There is no doubt, in any case, that it will be analyzed carefully.
