“Ermini should resign”. Storm in the left –

Look Brunello

Not just anyone. Certainly not a peon, among the many floating in the direction of the PD. Exactly what David Ermini is not. Lawyer, a past as a local administrator, older “brother” of Matteo Renzi, who nominated him first for Parliament and then even for the CSM. A relationship that ended badly with the former Prime Minister in the wake of the Consip case, and which led him to sympathize in recent times with another former Renzi supporter like Dario Nardella, both recruited by Dario Franceschini. Already a Democratic MP for two legislatures, already a commissioner of the PD in Liguria exactly 9 years ago, already above all vice president of the CSM from 2018 to 2023. To say of a very respectable curriculum, for someone who had taken his first steps in politics as a municipal councilor of the Christian Democrats, in his hometown, Figline Valdarno and who Renzi discovered, years later, in the provincial council of Florence. With Monday’s decision, the lawyer adds to his long biography the presidency of Spininvest srl, the holding company of Aldo Spinelli (a closeness to the Democratic Party that he has always claimed), the entrepreneur under house arrest for the corruption investigation that led to the resignation of the president of Liguria Giovanni Toti.

Ermini's nomination sparks uproar in the Democratic Party. Orlando wants to impose a step back

A bolt from the blue, which caused great embarrassment to Nazareno and even an ulcer to his ally Ferruccio Sansa: «This is not and will never be the politics we want to fight for». So much so as to push the candidate in pectore of the broad field in Liguria, Andrea Orlando, to seek direct contact. «Carefully evaluate the opportunity to renounce the Genoa assignment», the former minister, linked by a long-standing relationship with his party colleague (who was his commissioner in 2015), told him. An interlocutory phone call, without concrete developments, («the assignment is exclusively of a professional nature, without any political implications», Ermini objected), but which Orlando wanted to make public. To say “look, we of the PD, even if it doesn’t seem like it, are very angry”. An implicit response to the vibrant protests of the center-right, which en masse, called into question the double standards of the PD.

Orlando slows down on Renzi, Bettini returns to the field. Elly is not very left-wing

Like that of the Lega MP Simonetta Matone: «There is a double serious attack by the left on our democracy. A real assault committed by those who yesterday condemned without even a referral to trial and today aim at the division of seats». Or that of the deputy group leader in the Chamber of Fratelli d’Italia Alfredo Antoniozzi: «The Democratic Party of Liguria and the one led by Elly Schlein send one of their men, the former vice president of the self-governing body of judges, to the holding company of the entrepreneur mainly involved in the investigation. This casts further shadows on the judicial affair and on the principle of Cesare’s wife already abundantly trampled upon». Paradoxically, a position also shared by the leader of the Democratic Party at Palazzo Tursi, Simone D’Angelo, who in the City Council in Genoa says: «I feel shocked and angry, shocked because it is absurd that someone who is part of the Democratic Party has decided to accept that role without feeling the need to discuss it with the party, angry because I do not understand what led the former number two of the Superior Council of the Judiciary to accept the role that was offered to him». From the Regional Council, instead, comes the broadside from the left, with Gianni Pastorino: «The secretary Elly Schlein must ask Ermini to be suspended from the management». In short, while in Genoa there is heated discussion, at the Nazareno the lips remain rigorously sealed.
