Erler/Miedler miss double tournament victory in Marrakech

The Tyrolean Alexander Erler and the Lower Austrian Lucas Miedler missed the final victory at the ATP250 tournament in Marrakech. The two tennis professionals narrowly lost the final of the clay court tournament in Morocco once morest Marcelo Demoliner/Andrea Vavassori (BRA/ITA) on Saturday with 4:6,6:3 and 10:12 in the decisive tie-break. The red-white-red duo, number three, has to wait for the fourth ATP title following Acapulco (2023), Vienna (2022) and Kitzbühel (2021).

For Erler/Miedler it was the first final defeat on the tour. Both will still reach a new career high in the world rankings on Monday. Erler (42 so far) will move up into the top 40, Miedler (43) at least 42nd place.

In the first set of the final, Miedler conceded the break to 1:2 on his service game. While Demoliner/Vavassori found a total of eleven break chances and converted one of them, the Austrians were initially unable to use their two opportunities. The service then worked much better in the second set, Erler/Miedler secured the break to make it 3:1. In the tiebreak, the ÖTV double fought back following being 0: 4 and 4: 8 behind, fended off a match ball and found the chance of victory at 10: 9. However, the opponent then got three points in a row.
