Fans of extreme metal outgrowths who dare to take a step towards other cultures should look no further than the new album Enuma Elish the Munich oriental metal combo Mridu make a stop The album was released via RecordJet digitally as well as directly from the band on vinyl and CD.

What the oriental part in the music of Mridu exists, the listener must decide for himself or rather he finds the explanation in the concept. Eventually, the band named themselves following an ancient Sumerian city and Enuma Elish refers to the ancient Babylonian creation myth. Wars and mystical cults of the gods determine the events, at least lyrically. The album works chronologically through the seven cuneiform tablets of that story of creation, so that Enuma Elish actually represents a concept album.

A concept album regarding Babylonian myths and creation stories

Musically, the listener gets a mixture of technical, symphonic Death Metal and raw Black Metal. Mridu deliberately sets the entry barriers low, the whole album can HERE be streamed in full. They aren’t as extreme as the band describes themselves. The songs are finely arranged, offer a very differentiated note, especially in the guitar area, and at most take a more violent direction in the rhythm structure with occasional blast beats.

Examples of suitable recommendations are: The Great Divide with its cool riffing and symphonic polyphonic vocal chorus behind the guttural lead vocals. Or Reign Supremewhich indeed reveals an oriental touch, as in Shedding the Blood of Kingu.

Oriental death metal melange

The gloomy riffing, the delicate songwriting and the varied rhythm structure set the tone Mridu once once more in the scene as an extraordinary metal act, who not only performs at festivals like Dark Easter Metal Meeting or the Mahlstrom Open Air proves that he is ready for the big stages.

Rather is Mridu here with their second work they have succeeded in creating a wonderfully mature work that sounds as if it were made of one piece with atmosphere, a proper ethno claim and a lot of instrumental class. There isn’t too much to criticize. Even fans of moderate metal sounds should avoid this Extreme Don’t be put off by the self-designation.

Conclusion
With great played Death Metal with a Black Metal touch and a lot of oriental claim Mridu at the latest with Enuma Elish describe as an exceptional act of the metal family. An unconditional recommendation and full marks. 10 / 10
