Erick Sez, the shadow ears of the Verbier Festival

In classical music, the question of acoustics is a kind of holy grail, it almost takes on a sacred dimension. Isn’t it therefore paradoxical to have come to set up a festival in the mountains, in a village without a real hall provided for this purpose? For Erik Sez, “this is the paradox of all summer festivals where music is played outside the walls”. Technical director and co-founder with Martin Engstroem of the Verbier Festival, Erick Sez explains that “bringing an audience closer to music during the summer period, by offering them a different setting, with its advantages and disadvantages, is a very pleasant exercise”. For him, the role of an event like the Verbier Festival is “to try to achieve ideal acoustics, by providing the necessary means, while keeping in mind that it would be pointless to redo the Victoria Hall in the mountain”.
