Érick Barrondo receives confirmation that he will be at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Érick Barrondo will be at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and became the 15th athlete of the Guatemalan delegation in the games that will begin on July 26.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be the Guatemalan’s fourth adventure at this level, After having been present at London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, which was held in 2021 due to the pandemic.
According to information from the Athletics Federation, Barrondo earned the ticket to the Olympics due to his position in the International Ranking, which was updated on June 30 by World Athletics.
The 33-year-old athlete is currently ranked 48th place in the world ranking in the 20 kilometer distance and will take part in the race together with his cousin José Alejandro Barrondo, who is in Europe finalizing details for his participation.
Erick Barrondo is still the only Olympic medalist in the history of Guatemalan sport, following winning silver in London 2012.
After that success, Barrondo has tried to get closer to being on the Olympic podium once more, but it hasn’t been close.
In Rio 2016 he finished the 20 kilometer race in 50th place, of 73 participants, while in Tokyo 2020 took off in the 50 kilometers failed to finish the competition.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games come as a new challenge for the athlete from San Cristóbal Verapaz, who despite not achieving the qualifying mark, achieved enough points to be present in his fourth adventure.
Athletics will provide four athletes at the Olympic Games, in addition to Érick Barrondo and José Barrondo, they will also be present Luis Grijalva; in the 5,000 meters, and Alberto González; in the marathon.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to July 11 with the participation of 206 countries and the presence of 10,500 athletes.
