In the latest episode of ‘Chateau Meiland En Route’, Erica has just come out of the hospital, after having her uterus and ovaries removed. As soon as she gets home from the hospital, she tells her that she had a special request for her doctors. Something that, in retrospect, she also found ‘a bit strange’.

“Isn’t it a very special part of your body”

A day before the recordings, Erica went under the knife and “it all went very well,” Martien says, before Montana picks her up from the hospital. Yet the family lived in exciting times, when they did not yet know what the diagnosis would be. Your biggest fear is of course that they could also have said: ‘Well, Mrs. Renkema, it is not good. There is cancer and it has spread’. Then you end up in a kind of nightmare,” says Martien

The thought that it could have gone wrong affects him. “It is of course still a very common disease. Then you can just leave this planet,” he says emotionally. Fortunately, the doctor was satisfied and Erica was allowed to go home the next day. “Now recover quietly,” she says.

The evening before the operation, Erica thought a lot about her uterus. “It is a part that has been with you for 60 years,” she explains. She also wore both Montana and Maxime during her pregnancy. “It’s a very special part of your body.”

Partly for this reason, Erica had a special request for her doctor: “I thought about asking if I could take him on strong water.” But she soon realized that that would not be possible, because investigations still had to be carried out. Martien thinks it’s a crazy idea and doesn’t want to know anything about it. “You shouldn’t want that at all,” he says, after which Erica agrees with him. “It might also be a bit strange. (…) They still have to investigate it, so I’m completely at peace with it.”

Erica had her uterus and ovaries removed on the doctor’s advice, after a worrying smear test for the cervical cancer screening programme. The smear test showed she had a pre-cancerous stage. “I was soon advised to have the uterus removed. So that will happen soon,” she said at the end of August. Fortunately, her recovery ultimately went ‘surprisingly quickly’.

The Worrying Smear: A Cheeky Take on Erica’s Journey

Ah, here we are, diving headfirst into the enchanting world of reality TV with the latest episode of ‘Chateau Meiland En Route’. If you thought your family dinners were dramatic, just wait until you see what goes on when Martien gets emotional over surgery – and no, this isn’t about the time he lost a game at Monopoly. This week, we check in on Erica, fresh out of the hospital after what could only be described as a real-life game of “Who Wants to Lose a Uterus?”

Erica’s Hospital Adventure

So, Erica’s had her uterus and ovaries whisked away as if they were leftovers from a dinner party no one wanted to attend. A day before filming, our brave heroine goes under the knife, all while Martien watches like a concerned bird. “Where’s my uterus gone?!” he must have thought. He mentions that the family was in exciting times—more like nail-biting times! Who wants to sit around with a potential cancer diagnosis hanging over their heads? That’s a family gathering I’d rather skip!

“Isn’t it a very special part of your body?”

Erica certainly thinks so, and might I add, she has a nostalgic relationship with her now-gone parts. I mean, it’s been with her for 60 years! That’s longer than some marriages last, and definitely longer than the lifespan of any houseplant I’ve owned. Can we just take a moment to appreciate that? When you’ve cradled Montana and Maxime in there, it’s basically a VIP member of your body. So really, what do you do with it when it’s gone? Ask to take it home? That’s right folks, she actually thought about it! “Can I take my uterus on strong water?” A strong request indeed, Erica! Martien nearly choked on his tea, bless him. “You shouldn’t want that at all!” Ah, such wise words from the father figure of our time.

The Special Request

Despite her cheeky quips, Erica comes to her senses and understands that her doctor needs to do their job—checks, investigations, classy stuff. Let’s face it, no one wants a uterus hanging around without a purpose. Can you imagine the awkward conversations in the waiting room? “So, what do you do for a living?” “Oh, you know, I once housed two kids. Best part of my life. What about you?”

Now, let’s touch on the actual medical stuff. Erica’s journey wasn’t just for showbiz chuckles. The doctors suggested this surgery after a worrying smear test that hinted at pre-cancerous conditions. And honestly, when the doctor says “Let’s remove that,” you don’t argue. It’s the adult version of “Do you want fries with that?” Only this time, your health is on the line. The woman is clearly made of tough stuff; she recovers surprisingly quickly, leaving us to hope she’ll return for the next season, showing off her ‘other’ fabulous parts.

Wrapping Up with a Smirk

So, there you have it. A whirlwind journey through fears, hospital gowns, and cheeky requests that could have landed Erica a one-way ticket to the Weirdest Hospital Awards. This episode of ‘Chateau Meiland En Route’ serves to remind us: life’s too short—because it might involve an unexpected hysterectomy. Enjoy those magical moments, even when they involve a hospital stay and an absurd idea of taking home what you no longer need.

Join us next week for more riveting tales, where we’ll probably discuss Martien’s next big idea: decorating his living room with medical memorabilia. Brilliant, wouldn’t you say? Until then, remember to take care of yourselves—for the mere sake of good TV!
