Eric Bischoff is set to make a triumphant return to the wrestling world – this time, for a one-night-only event that fans won’t want to miss.
The renowned figure in professional wrestling will be taking the reins at the Major League Wrestling (MLW) One Shot event, scheduled to take place in New York City on Dec. 5. In an exclusive conversation with Fox News Digital, Bischoff revealed his generous plan to donate his entire earnings from the event to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which aids the families of first responders and veterans.
“One of the things I told (MLW founder Court Bauer) right away was this isn’t about the money,” Bischoff explained. “He started to negotiate my fee, but for me, the financial aspect wasn’t important. I made it clear that whatever it is, I’m committed to donating it to Tunnel to Towers.
“I just want whatever it is to be donated because I’m not doing this for the money. I’m doing it for the fun,” he emphasized.
Bischoff will oversee the upcoming action-packed night of pro wrestling at the iconic Melrose Ballroom in Queens. He noted that he had been in discussions with Bauer for several years about collaborating on a show with MLW, but the timing had never aligned – until now, when the cosmic forces seemed to come together seamlessly.
In a delightful twist, Bischoff was joined by actor-turned-wrestler Paul Walter Hauser on his YouTube show “Life Choices.” During their conversation about the wrestling industry, Hauser decided to call Bauer live, and that phone call proved to be the catalyst that set everything in motion.
The roster of MLW has seen an impressive array of talented wrestlers, including notable names such as Alex Shelley, Austin Aries, Lexis King (formerly known as Brian Pillman Jr.), Francine, Gangrel, Jacob Fatu, Karrion Kross (previously known as Killer Kross), Konnan, Matt Cardona, MJF, Tajiri, and many others who have left their mark in the ring.
Currently, the MLW roster boasts a wealth of established talents, including KENTA, Matt Riddle, Satoshi Kojima, Mistico, Minoru Suzuki, Bobby Fish, and the legendary Andersons. Notably, Donovan Dijak also made his impactful debut this summer with MLW after his contract with WWE was not renewed, generating buzz among fans.
“They’re obviously attracting some great talent. Court, as a former writer in WWE, has a keen understanding of the art of storytelling. I admire the fact that they’re the underdog, striving to build this brand from the ground up,” Bischoff praised.
“And I really enjoy watching emerging companies – whether it’s in wrestling or any other field. I’m genuinely fascinated by the prospect of MLW growing and reaching new heights, no matter what angle that takes,” he added.
Bischoff has been instrumental behind some of pro wrestling’s most memorable creative storylines, especially when he helped create the iconic New World Order faction in World Championship Wrestling (WCW). This pivotal moment saw the legendary Hulk Hogan transform from a fan-favorite hero to a villain, joining forces with notable figures such as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, collectively referred to as The Outsiders. This transformation ignited the fierce “Monday Night Wars” against WWE (then the WWF), propelling WCW to a dominating position at the top of the ratings for over a year.
Despite the eventual downfall of WCW, Bischoff’s impact on the wrestling industry remained undeniable. He later joined WWE and became a prominent figure as the on-air general manager of the RAW brand while also serving as an executive producer for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
Bischoff confided in Fox News Digital that he is already relishing the opportunity to immerse himself back into the creative side of wrestling and is eagerly anticipating the chance to craft an engaging show for fans.
However, he clarified that he is not actively searching for a long-term return to the industry.
“I don’t even think about that,” he said firmly. “For me to commit to something in wrestling now, it has to be fun. If it becomes a chore or merely a means to make money, I lose interest fast. I’m focused on ensuring this is an enjoyable experience.” He elaborated further, saying, “My current lifestyle is fulfilling, living in a beautiful yet tranquil part of the country where I can gaze out at Yellowstone National Park from my home.”
“The commitment it takes to be involved in professional wrestling is intense; it’s 24/7. If you’re not mentally engaged with it, you’re merely not in it,” he explained. “But if this venture proves to be enjoyable and successful, anything is on the table. However, I would say that a long-term involvement is highly unlikely.”
A few matches have already been booked for the MLW One Shot event, tantalizing fans eager for the adrenaline-packed action. Here’s what is confirmed so far:
- Matt Riddle vs. Donovan Dijak
- Mistico vs. Trevor Lee for the World Middleweight Championship
