Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan rallied his supporters in his first personal appearance since suffering from a health condition that hindered his election campaign for 3 days, two weeks before the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14.
And following recovering from an “intestinal disorder” that caused him to cancel electoral activities, Erdogan participated yesterday in the opening of the annual “Technofest” exhibition of aviation and space technology. The Turkish president arrived, accompanied by his close ally, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba. He then went to Izmir, where he addressed a rally of his party’s supporters.
Erdogan appeared in good health as he addressed the crowd, praising the government’s efforts to help victims of the earthquake disaster that killed more than 50,000 people in February. The Turkish leader lashed out at his opponents, saying that “the scandalous statements they made in recent days reveal their hatred and hatred,” referring to speculation regarding his health. “But whatever they try to do, they will not be able to achieve anything,” he added, accusing opposition members of being “agents” of the West bent on destabilizing Turkey.
Erdogan did not address concerns regarding his health, nor did he mention the reason for his absence, instead announcing the launch of a “new century for Turkey.”
On the other hand, the opposition candidate for the presidency, head of the Republican People’s Party, Kamal Kılıçdaroğlu, warned the Turkish people once morest being drawn into what he called “dirty games” and the climate of “reckless polarization.”
