President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will officially become the first owner of a domestic electric vehicle (EV) in Turkey on Monday, as the long-awaited vehicle deliveries begin.
Erdoğan, accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, will receive the T10X EV TOG in a ceremony at the Presidential Complex in the capital, Ankara.
The all-electric SUV C-Class has an “Anatolian” color, which is inspired by the color red, which is a metaphor for the color of friendliness and passion for the lands of the Anatolian region.
The delivery comes just days following buyers of the first batch of T10Xs were selected in a digital raffle.
And demand was so high that the automaker had to increase the number of units. Accordingly, it will start delivering 20,000, instead of the planned 12,000, from April.
More than 177,400 people placed pre-orders to purchase the vehicle in just 21 days. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the coming days.
The second vehicle will be delivered to Erdogan’s Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
Erdoğan offered to put his name on a potential pre-order list in December 2019, following first revealing the j;y prototypes.
