Erdogan: Many Western countries, most notably the United States, remain silent regarding Israel

Erdogan said in an interview with the American channel “NBC News” on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly: “Unfortunately, many Western countries are still silent against Israel and have not taken a position against it.”

He added, “Unfortunately, among NATO allies, there are countries that stand by Israel. We are now in the United States, which is one of these countries.”

He explained that US President Joe Biden criticizes Israel on the one hand, but provides support to it in various ways on the other hand.

The Turkish President noted that the United States provided weapons and ammunition to Israel and sent an aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean to support it.

For his part, the head of the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department, Fakhruddin Altun, confirmed that the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu is trying hard to divert attention from the genocide it is committing against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Alton stated in a post on the “X” platform that Netanyahu made baseless accusations regarding the meeting between the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

President Erdogan held a meeting with Khan at the “Turkish House” in New York on Monday on the sidelines of the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and presented to him the books “Evidence” and “Witness” prepared by the Anatolia Agency, which are among the most prominent concrete evidence of Israel’s crimes in Gaza. .

Alton pointed out that Netanyahu is trying to justify his government’s random killings, war crimes, and disregard for international law, by claiming that his cause is legitimate.

He continued, saying: “No one believes this story anymore, including many Israelis.”

He explained, “Netanyahu is using the events of October 7, 2023 as an excuse to kill Palestinian civilians and expel them from their lands, and today he is in a state of panic, fearing that he will be arrested in connection with the case filed against him at the International Criminal Court.”

Alton stressed that “the diplomatic protection provided by some Western governments will not save Netanyahu from prosecution under international law.”

He pointed out that the Israeli government is already guilty in the eyes of most countries in the world, and that the ICC investigation will confirm what is already known to everyone.

Alton stressed that the attempt to delegitimize this issue will only succeed when a handful of Western governments are complicit in this genocide.

He stressed that “history issued its ruling a long time ago in this case, and holding those responsible accountable is only a matter of time.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that has left more than 137,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

Tel Aviv continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to end it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Israel is also challenging the request of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan to issue two arrest warrants against its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and its Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, for their responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
